Mentoring Around Waiting In Cyber Security

It seems like we always have something to wait for in cyber security.

Waiting to see what happens after an alert.

Waiting for someone to answer an email.

Waiting for something to do.

Waiting is a purposeful choice separating you from an positive end state.

Cyber security isn’t passive, shrug-your-shoulders type of work or a role just for cultivating your social media following.

The threats are counting on you to do nothing while your organization depends on swift action.

So, dig into that alert or ask questions of someone that can help.

Call the person who hasn’t answered the email.

Explore something new in your down time

There are things to learn. Log data to analyze. Information to defend. Vulnerabilities to mitigate.

No shortage of any of these, actually.

But, you can't just be waiting for them.
